INTRODUCTION:
Mt. Horeb Baptist Church (MHBC) awards scholarships to MHBC youth to provide assistance with their educational development in a postsecondary environment.  The Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Educational Scholarship Fund (Scholarship Fund) is administered by the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Educational Scholarship Committee (Scholarship Committee).

THE MT. HOREB BAPTIST CHURCH EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE:
The Scholarship Committee is made up of 9 selected MHBC members in good standing who volunteer their efforts with Brother Craig Hawkins, Chairperson and other supporting officers elected by the church, under the leadership of Sister Anna Hartsfield, the MHBC Director of the Department of Christian Education (DCE).

The role of the Scholarship Committee is to disseminate information about the scholarship process; establish eligibility criteria, set deadline dates, review and accept or reject applications and supporting documentation; meet with potential awardees and parents/guardians; establish follow-up criteria; and maintain a supportive tie between the church and the students while in school.  The Scholarship Committee will complete its work and make recommendations to the Director of Christian Education for submission to the Official Board.  Awards and amounts of awards will be finalized and approved, subject to funds availability and eligibility criteria met, by the Official Board to ensure fair, equitable and impartial judgment of all eligible applicants.

SCHOLARSHIPS:
Scholarships may be awarded to MHBC youth, seeking financial assistance to continue their education in an accredited postsecondary educational institution--Technical/Vocational/Trade School, College or University.  Additional scholarships may be given to continuing students who apply and meet eligibility requirements.  Under no circumstances, however, is receipt of additional funding an automatic process.  Students do not receive more than one award per year, disbursed according to eligibility criteria requirements that are met in each semester.  The funding is made available to MHBC graduating high school students only.  Unfortunately, at this time, due to limited funds, there is no provision for secondary degree assistance.
