Church ushering is a sacred duty of the church because it is an important phase of the Lord's work in His sanctuary. An usher displays genuine friendliness to greet, meet and seat members and guests of the church with a smile and to make everyone feel at home. With a sincere smile and handshake, ushers invite guests to come again and let them know we enjoyed their visit.

To become an usher, candidates must attend the School of Ushering for six months of graduation exercises. To become an officer, you must graduate from the School of Ushering. During the year, ushers may attend regional conferences, retreats and conventions.

The Senior and Junior Usher Boards meet every 2nd Saturday at 10:00 am. There are 22 members on each board.

The Male Usher Board meets every 3rd Saturday at 10:00 am. There are 13 members.

In our Outreach Ministry, all of the ushers of Mt. Horeb join together to participate in the sandwich brigade for the homeless and donate clothing and other items. We visit the sick and shut-in, send cards and make phone calls. We serve at all church services at Mt. Horeb. Some of us serve at other churches for funerals and services. The ushers also participate in other outreach ministries for the United Church Ushers Association.

We must keep in mind the instruction of our Lord recorded in Matthew 11:29, "Learn of me for I am meek and lowly in heart".
